Tips for aspiring PMs ⭐️

If I were a freshman in college and wanted to land a Big Tech internship, here is exactly what I would do👇

✅ Apply to underclassmen internships.

These include Microsoft Explore, Meta University, UberSTAR, Amazon Propel, Duolingo Thrive, and Google STEP.

✅ Hop on a coffee chat with at least one former intern from each of these companies.

In these coffee chats, I’d ask the following:

• How do I stand out in the application process?

• What questions did you get on your interviews?

• How should I prepare for the interviews?

✅ Get my resume reviewed by my peers, mentors, and career advisors at my university.

Keep revising your resume until you get little to no feedback.

✅ Go to as many in-person career fairs and conferences as possible.

These include the Grace Hopper Celebration by AnitaB.org, WE23 by Society of Women Engineers, Tapia, SHPE, Tech Up For Women, Out for Undergrad Conferences, and more.

I would submit my resume in the databases of these conferences and do as many on-site interviews as possible.

✅ Compete in (and win) company-sponsored hackathons.

Winning hackathons like JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Code for Good, American Express Makeathon, and Robinhood’s Hackathon for Social Good often lead to interviews and recruiter connections at these companies.
